Tapia and Coello Win Fourth Consecutive Paris Major in Three-Set Thriller

Tapia and Coello Win Fourth Consecutive Paris Major in Three-Set Thriller

Agustín Tapia and Arturo Coello are the undisputed kings of Roland Garros. The Golden Boys claimed their fourth consecutive Paris Major title on Sunday, defeating Fede Chingotto and Ale Galán 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 in a final that once again confirmed this rivalry as the defining matchup of the current era. Four finals at the Philippe-Chatrier. Four wins for Tapia and Coello.

Chingotto and Galán pushed them further than the scoreline suggests. The second set belonged to the challengers, and a third-set tiebreak had the packed Philippe-Chatrier on edge. Galán and Chingotto even had chances to serve it out, making this the closest they have come to breaking the Golden Boys' grip on the tournament. In the end, though, Tapia and Coello found what they needed when it mattered most, as they almost always do in Paris.

The result also carries Race implications. Galán and Chingotto arrived at the tournament with a shot at pulling back ground at the top of the standings, but the loss means Tapia and Coello extend their dominance at the summit. Four titles from four attempts at a single venue is a record that has no parallel in the Premier Padel era.

On the other side of the draw, Ari Sánchez and Andrea Ustero took the women's title, completing a strong week for both with composed, mature performances throughout. Paris delivered two worthy champions and, once again, a final worth watching from the first ball to the last.
